Nowadays, people risk their well-being for dollars. It’s sad when bosses and managers value revenue and profit over people and their families. Working in fast food, and working for a corporate company, I was treated like a simple army ant working for a queen ant. Our manager kept tell my coworkers and I that we were replaceable, and that they can hire somebody just as good as us to do our jobs. Regardless if it’s true or not, fear doesn’t motivate us to work harder.
Fear, instead, showed how meaningless we were to them. I worked at a fast food place for two years. Regardless if I was sick, the made me work. I would be coughing, I would have a fever, but they would still make me work, regardless of how illegal and unsanitary that was.
I keep telling myself, when I go to work, “I need money, it’s for the money.” However, sometimes it’s not always about the money. If you’re stressed and breaking down, money can’t make you feel better at that point. The only thing that can help you during this state is rest and leisure.
Some people don’t realize that without health, there is no point in wealth. Now, I work for smaller, family feeling people, I even call my managers mom and dad, and they treat my coworkers and I like we’re their children. Customers always call us their kids, and refer to them as our parents. They lecture us when we don’t do something right, they worry about us when glass breaks or when we’re sick, and they understand situations such as family and health that need to be taken care of.
Realize that money is a wonderful motivator when you don’t want to work, but also realize money can’t make you unstressed, unbreakable, and money can’t buy you rest and relaxation.
